Amazing Grace

Before John Newton was famous for penning the Hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ he was infamous as a ship captain in the slave trade. When he later found Christ, his eyes were opened to his sin, and he became an active abolitionist. He died in London in 1807 aged 82.

This most famous of hymns, speaks of his revelation of Jesus, it closes with; ‘When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first began’.

Perhaps when he wrote the hymn, he was thinking about Romans 6:14; ‘For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace’. Whatever you have done in life, little sin, or big sin, remember this, when you seek God’s forgiveness His grace makes a way for you in life, that’s it, once and for all.

Quote You never fully understand the gift of Grace, until you receive it.

Prayer Lord, thank you that you make a way for me, regardless of what I have done, Amen.

Action Point Perhaps there is someone in your life that you should extend a little more grace to in the same way as God did to John Newton, think about it.
