Bend Me Lord, That I Might Serve You

When Evan Roberts, who was attending a conference in west Wales in 1903 heard a sermon from Seth Joshua, his response in prayer was ‘Bend me Lower’. It was this humility to purge himself of his selfish desire that propelled him to lead what became the following year, the 1904 Welsh Revival.

Psalm 71:2 says ‘In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me!’. (ESV) In our submission God will incline His ear, when we give up our desire and embrace His desire He will come and visit us.

The route of modern Christendom is often found in advertising, large events, in success, and promotion. Yet the most powerful times you might have with God is in submission, showing our creator that it’s not the bright lights or the big sound, but the silence and prayer that shifts us to serve Him.

Lord, help me not just follow lights and sounds because everyone else does, help me find your voice. Amen.
