Eight billion people live on our planet. The gap between rich and poor is the highest its ever been. The top 10% of the population owns 76% of the world’s wealth. In contrast, remaining 90% of the world’s population own 24% of the wealth.
Trapped in the poorest segment are a staggering 1.2 billion people, who live off £1 a day; imagine that! There is a Chinese proverb that says ‘Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.’
Proverbs 22:2 says ‘Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all.’ (NIV) None of us can take our wealth with us. Perhaps we should pray and find ways to suggest to as many rich people as we can, that they educate and feed as many poor people as possible.
Quote
Heaven only receives the thing God values most in this world - you.
Prayer
Lord, I pray that you would raise up people that could become advocates for the poor. Amen.
Action Point
Consider your giving and see if you can adjust it to consider more of the poorest of people in different countries. Try to give to things that educate and raise people out of poverty.
