Why Is The World Like It Is?

Updated: Feb 13

Hunger in our world kills 2.1 million per year. The poorest countries' lack of basic healthcare and treatment costs 5.6 million lives annually. Twenty-five per cent of the entire world's population does not even have access to clean drinking water. Even worse, 60% of the world (some 4.5 billion people) also have no access to a toilet.

If we combine the wealth of the top 100 billionaires, we arrive at $4.2 trillion dollars. Enough money to provide clean drinking water and sanitation to everyone on the planet. It’s wonderful that there are projects like the Giving Pledge, which at the time of writing, had 236 people signed up.

Proverbs 14:31 says, ‘Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honours God.’ (NIV) Let’s pray that the hearts of the wealthy will be urgently moved to help the poor of our world.

Quote

We should all have a cause we support which benefits the poor.

Prayer

Father, would You move the richest people in the world to help the poorest people in the world? Amen.

Action Point

Don’t be afraid to write to the richest people there are suggesting ways they could bring those in the poorest out of poverty.
