When sin these days seems to be celebrated, covering someones sin seems a big ask. Yet there may be good Christians around us that occasionally stumble, but are still good to their core.
Noah, got drunk and naked one night, and his sons came to the rescue. Genesis 9:23 says ‘Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked’. (NIV)
It’s not a general principle in life to overlook sin, but sometimes, just sometimes, a good person, living a generally Godly life needs a break. So rather than shout their sin from the rooftops, pray for them and if it’s not too serious, don’t advertise it. Use mercy to show they still have a future in Christ, help them.
Quote
Believing in someone beyond a moment of sin is called mercy.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be kind enough to extend mercy, in the same way in my early years, it might have been extended to me.
Action Point
It’s not that we just ignore what happened, make sure to follow through and talk, be a friend, a coach, a mentor to someone in need to help them get back on track in the Kingdom of God.
