Don’t Go Overboard With Presents

Christmas is coming and with the cost of living crisis squeezing, we have to think about what is more important in the relationship with our children, grandchildren or families which are close friends.

Our society suggests that we should do the best we can to impress, yet anytime you ask a child what they really want, they want you, they want time. 1 Timothy 6:6 says ‘…godliness with contentment is great gain’. (NIV)

Keeping things simple and fun, playing lots of games and spending time with each other this Christmas, will mean spending less money, you don’t need to compete with other parents or your children with other peers. If they are loved, cared for, and cherished. It’s a sad fact that 40% of UK families pay for each Christmas on a credit card. They pay it off over time, just in time to do it all over again.

Prayer

Lord, help me not cave in to the impulse to impress, help us to have a meaningful Christmas, Amen.

These days Charity shops have more and more unopened presents that children never used, if you want to get something good at a low cost, have a look around there.
