What Advice Would You Give Your Younger Self?

Updated: Feb 5

When I look at the winding route of life and reflect upon some of the choices I made, I wish I had asked God for wisdom in my choice. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t live in regret, I continue to life a full and fruitful life. Yet there were moments and choices I made that were not wise at all.

Proverbs 2:6 says ‘For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding’. (NIV)

The benefit now of getting a little older is we can convey experienced wisdom to the younger generation. Wisdom is having knowledge, and having good judgement, both missing when we are young. Yet we now probably have both. Marriages, bereavement, first job, how to own a house, ill health, and everything in between. My advice to myself would be, don’t rush, think, pray and get a lot of advice before you act.

Quote

You can’t speak to your past, you can speak to the younger generations' future.

Prayer

Lord, help me consider the younger ones around me and how I can convey what I have learned of you and your Kingdom to them, Amen.

Action Point

I always try to have three or four younger people I’m in contact with, to give a monthly call to, hear their situation, and then talk and pray with them, you could do that too.
