Making a difference, one devotional at a time

Academia
Over the last few years, I've been working toward a Doctorate. Looking at the relationship between AI & Faith. The Lord was telling me, 'Be accredited for the journey ahead'. I'm not from an academic background, but I have loads of experience in running a ministry, large budgets, staff, developing a strategy, and implementing that. To be honest, I never thought I would go on this kind of journey, but I did. At the worst times of study, I wanted to give up, it was too hard, I

I Did A Thing
After 2,500 hours of research and study, 350,000 words edited down to 55,000 words for the Thesis of my PhD, I finished. The work spanned survey work in the UK, India, the USA, Australia and across Africa. The question was quite robust. TO WHAT EXTENT DOES THE RISE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CHALLENGE OR COMPLEMENT TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN UNDERSTANDINGS OF DIVINE AGENCY, HUMAN PURPOSE, MORAL AND ETHICAL AUTHORITY. The whole exercise has been very challenging, but also very insi

Hello 2026
We had a quieter Christmas this year, with a couple of friends around from Church, who would have been home alone otherwise. A full meal with all the trimmings, a call to our Uganda family (The Santids) to touch base with Santid, Birungi, Vera, Vida, Verny and Vihan. All was well and good. Then on Boxing Day, we headed to London to prepare for a holiday to Malta for a week. A great time to decompress, to pray, to laugh, to relax from a very busy year and to prepare for the ye

Touching Neighbours
We've lived in the house we're in for the last nine years. The first few years, we were so caught up in decoration and renovation, we didn't spend much time connecting with the people around us. Don't get me wrong, we made a couple of immediate friends, yet with such a long street, it was going to take some thought as to how we would reach the whole street. Then came the AHAH moment. Easter, Christmas & Birthdays etc, are natural times to celebrate something we might all expe

Ordination
I never thought I would be writing this blog. At the beginning of 2024, I felt God speak to my heart 'You need to be accredited for the journey ahead'. Ordination has been a possibility several times over the years, but because I have been working across the whole Church, I never felt aligned with just one aspect of it. Shortly after receiving an honorary doctorate from Kennedy University of Baptist, I travelled to South Africa, where I received ordination from a very close f

Honorary PhD
Not bad from a boy from the Welsh Valleys with little academic achievement. When I consider everything that has happened in my life, it's been so far an incredible adventure, powered by God. I had no idea when I left school that I might be travelling to 50 countries, 300+ trips. Meeting so many people and cultures. That I would hold a directorship at the UK's largest Christian broadcaster. That I would raise and spend (£200 million+) so much money across so many projects in t

Imani 365 volume 1
I'm so excited to be able to bring together one years worth of devotional content into a hard cover book. Imani (Formally Faith Lift) is a short daily reading which always includes a bible verse, quote, prayer and action point. Writing a devotional is no easy task. Lots of prayer, research, planning and of course actual writing. Now having a few hundred written, it is time to produce an annual version. To read this for free digitally Click Here.

Neighbours at Christmas
Each year we reach out to our neighbours with little gift bags to around 70 of them. There's a little card, a chocolate some kind of Christian gift, and invite to an open house that we do just before Christmas. We also include a local social action project we all as neighbours could get behind. This year we asked neighbours to give items to children who have been in foster care, who have since needed to leave because of their age. They have about two years then in transitiona

What is Imani?
God has led to a point where the future will come into one thing, Imani. Coming back from Uganda, via Rwanda, I couldn't sleep; the word 'Imani' was going through my mind the whole flight. I'd never heard it before and didn't know what it meant until we landed. Having done so much travelling, particularly in Africa, I'm so pleased that Imani will be the title and brand for the future. Imani means 'FAITH' in Swahili. So it's a fitting name for our future. Click Here to read th

Going Bald
My grandfather, my father and now I, have gone bald. Unfortunatly my dad, did before it was complete. I noticed a small island of hair had developed above my forehead, so when I had a couple of hours to spare in London, I thought, lets see what I look like if the island was shaved off LOL. When I saw the result, my mind immediately though I looked like the semi-bald professor in the Simpsons. So I bit the bullet and decided to go head naked so to speak. I haven't looked back,

My Little Office
Before Covid, I had a lovely office near to where I lived. I could walk to work and had everything all in one place, book stock, staff and all the office technology that was needed to work day to day. When Covid hit, a few things happened. First of all we were told we couldn't access our office. Our landords decided we couldn't access our office for six months, while still charging us for rent. I couldn't access my big computer, I couldn't fulfil orders, I couldn't see the pe

What is AI and how it might affect you
We are on the cusp of the biggest change the world has ever seen. You might think Brexit was disruptive, the war in Ukraine is disruptive, or covid was disruptive. AI (Artificial Intelligence) will bring more change than all of those put together. For ten years now, companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Tesla and IBM, have been developing software which learns how to improve, thereby giving the company a competitive advantage. Capitalism is funding AI, and no

My 53rd Birthday
19,345 days after I was born in Neath General Hospital, here I am still going on. Birthdays seem a lot more poignant when you get into the second half of life. I'll guess even more so in your 60's and 70's. I've developed much more intentionality around the things I'll get involved in and the things I won't. I used to say 'yes' to everything, and about 1/3 of the things I've done, never amounted to much. When I've been praying and because covid helped me miss the big 50th cel

A General has been Promoted
George Verwer passed away just after 11 pm on Friday, 14th April. I first met George Verwer about 12 years ago when I attended a conference in Metropolitan Tabernacle (Northern Ireland). I was the ministry director of UCB, so I would often travel around the place to various meetings. We did the usual pleasantries, and then he went up to speak. Not long, to the point, he really pushed that the whole congregation should pray that the Gospel would reach more people. George walke
