Nearer My God To Thee

Nearer, My God, to Thee is a hymn born from deep personal faith. Written by Sarah Flower Adams in the 1840s, it expresses the longing to draw closer to God, even through sorrow or trial. Famously played by the band aboard the Titanic as it sank, this hymn became a symbol of hope and surrender in the face of tragedy. Its message is timeless: in both joy and suffering, our hearts cry out to be nearer to God.
James 4:8 says, “Come near to God, and God will come near to you…” (NCV). That nearness is not measured in distance but in relationship. We draw closer not by circumstance, but by choice—through worship, prayer, and surrender.
What ever you are going through and whatever the outcome, let this old hymn be a new reminder today: no matter where you are, through life, God is never far from you.
