00072 - Be Wise This Payday
A third of people in the United Kingdom live one payday to the next. That means no savings, while holding a fair amount of debt. As Christians we are taught that we should 1) Tithe 10%, 2) Avoid Debt, 3) Save 10% and 4) Live off the rest. Proverbs 21:20 in the Message version says ‘Valuables are safe in a wise person’s home; fools put it all out for yard sales’. The point is to be considered with what you decide to do. Don’t make rash decisions where your impulse to want some

00071 - Praying For The Next Prime Minister
Let’s face it, all Prime Ministers come and go. The longest they can stay is two terms (8 years). Usually, the incumbent has persuaded the public that what they are offering at the time is ‘the solution’ to the Nation’s woes. We must consider God’s influence and our role in prayer. Luke 12:48 says ‘…From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked’. (NIV) Most leaders like the power and in

00070 - Breathe This Public Holiday
When we have public holidays, people tend to go into overdrive on DIY projects, shopping trips, painting things, and not doing what the holiday was designed for – rest. We can often get so busy on that day of rest; we go back to our normal activity even more tired than before we began. Matthew 11:28 says ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest’. It’s not rocket science to listen to your mind and body groan at you when you are doing too much.

00069 - Are We Desperate For God’s Word ?
In 1792 a young girl called Mary Jones gave her life to Jesus, she was eight. By 15 she had learned to read and yearned for a Bible of her own. The closest Bible to her was 2 miles away and the closest one for sale in Bala was a 26 mile journey. Having saved for six years, she set off barefoot one morning to walk the 26 miles to purchase one. Her determination led Thomas Charles (who sold her the Bible) to setup the Religious Tract Society that supplied Bibles to Wales, thi

00068 - Pray For Your Pastor
Let’s face it being a Pastor is one of the most demanding roles out there. Trying to keep everyone happy, trying to prepare one or more messages each week. Facilitating weddings, funerals, baptisms. Doing hospital visits and outreach, often on a low salary with lots of criticism and not much thanks. We should honour our leaders, we should be supportive and encouraging, we should lift them up and not pull them down. When was the last time we did something nice for the leaders

00067 - Satellites
The former Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1 (Satellite 1) in 1957, it was the weight of a person and while travelling at 18,000 mph, was able to measure the conditions of the atmosphere. Move forward sixty years and through relentless engineering there are now over 3,300 active satellites in orbit. They analyse the weather, provide internet and GPS services to us all. Elon Musk’s Starlink project plans to launch an additional 45,000 satellites beaming the internet to remote ar

00066 - Cast Your Nets Once More
Albert Einstein once said, ‘The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result’. Luke 5:4-5 says, ‘When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Take the boat into deep water, and put your nets in the water to catch some fish.” Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night trying to catch fish, and we caught nothing. But you say to put the nets in the water, so I will.”’. The difference here is having a clear word from

00065 - Train Up A Child
One of the greatest privileges in life is to input into the life of a Child. An African proverb says it takes a village to raise a child, and that’s probably true. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, godparent, schoolteacher, or coach, highlighting faith in Jesus to them as they grow is very important. Proverbs 22:6 says, ‘Point your kids in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost’. Teaching a child how to pray, to read the bible, to involve God in their

00064 - The Freedom To Fail
We all live in a world where success is sold as the only way to get along. Yet failure is likely to play a big part of life. Whether you failed at chess, driving a car, an exam, work, dieting, marriage, or good mental health. There are so many things that can happen in life, which means failure in some way or other is inevitable. Why are we afraid to fail? I tell my son (without any chastising), what did you learn when you failed, not to be afraid to fail, but learn from it,

00063 - Time For A Prayer Walk
When prayer walking your street or community, you bring the presence of God through prayer to rest on that place. Christians have sometimes found that regular prayer walks have seen crime reduce, abandon houses restored, house Churches planted and a sense of the spiritual atmosphere of the whole community raise. John 15:16 says ‘You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit - fruit that will last – and so whatever you ask in my

00062 - Be A Light On Your Street
Living out faith on your street can be really rewarding. Often people seek out help and advice from Christians when they have a problem or need. The offer of Prayer is also rarely rejected by anyone. When people see you are authentic and not cringeworthy your faith will make you magnetic to their need. Matthew 5:15-16 says ‘Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way,

00061 - Don’t Give In To Temptation
We live in a world these days, where the very last thing anyone want is to be told is what to do or how to live life, yet the Bible is full of advice like that. The big book is ‘the’ moral and spiritual compass we all need. James 1:14-15 says ‘….but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed, Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin…..’. Temptation comes in many forms, you could say many degrees, yet the principle is

00060 - The Seven Mountains Of Influence
Theologians have for years sought to find the biblical mandate for influencing society. It’s no secret that Christianity has been a guiding light for our family of Nations for centuries, even though these days secularism is eroding that influence. Romans 13:1 says ‘Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God’. With that in mind, have you thought a

00059 - Your Output Reflects Your Input
Have you ever considered what pollutes your brain? What your eyes see, how often they see it. Whether that be a soap opera or violence on TV? There is a saying, ‘garbage in – garbage out’. Asking what occupies our time is a question well made. Matthew 6:22 says ‘The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light...’. What would happen if we simply switched off from the violence, swearing, fighting and death in the media we watch

00058 - The Wonder Of Creation
Jeremiah 32:17 says ‘'Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you’. You only have to walk in the woods, or swim off the coast, or look up at the stars at night to see the diversity and complexity of creation. From the size of space to the minute detail of a cell. The delicate nature of creation found in an Orchid, to the violent strength of a volcano, God made it all. When did you take time

00057 - When A Miracle Smiles Up At You.
At the end of a three-week mission trip to Africa, in the town of Sega, Kenya, I felt the Holy Spirit stir, to ask anyone with a medical need to come forward, over half the people there did just that. A lady in a blue floral dress had a skin tumour the size of a small melon on her belly which was bleeding through her dress. I saw it and felt the Holy Spirit say, simply pray. I watched the tumour shrink before me. In John 2 we read the of the surprise of Jesus turning water i

00056 - The Midnight Hour
If you find yourself regularly waking in the middle of the night with something on your mind, it might not be insomnia, it might be the Holy Spirit nudging you to pray. Like the bride coming to see the bridegroom and have His full attention, Matthew 25:6 says ‘But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ In that quiet time, when the whole Nation sleeps, there is no better time to get your full attention to pray. No distraction from mobile p

00055 - Blessed Assurance Jesus Is Mine
Fanny Crosby, the blind hymn writer in 1873 listened to a new piece of music written by Phoebe Palmer Knapp. When asked by Knapp, what she thought, Crosby replied, ‘Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine’. That one moment between two friends resulted in a song, which has touched hundreds of millions of people over the last 130 or so years. Crosby’s walk of faith was inspired by Philippians 1:21 – ‘For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain’. When you are lost in the Saviour’s l

00054 - Loneliness
It’s weird that despite being more connected to people than ever through social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, people are feeling more isolated and lonelier than ever before. Of course, Covid hasn’t helped, with huge swathes of the population having to isolate, without any physical contact with family or friends for months on end. We can take solace in Isaiah 41:10, which says, ‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I wil

00053 - Persistent In Prayer
Have you noticed that when you pray, coincidences happen and when you don’t pray, coincidences don’t happen? It should be no surprise that when we set aside time to press into God, and P.U.S.H. (Pray Until Something Happens), inevitably things begin to align with the direction of our prayer. Ephesians 6:18 says ‘And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people’. J
