00027 - Fasting
Fasting – to deprive yourself of food or other comforts, in order to spend the time praying through a circumstance, issue or to simply get into a deeper relationship with God than you had before. You shouldn’t fast if you are sick, if someone is putting pressure on you, to be noticed, or if you think you need to be punished for something. Matthew 6:16-18 suggests when fasting, we should separate ourselves, be private, that fasting is a spiritual exercise. So, whatever you ar

00026 - Eternity
It’s hard to compare the life we have now with a life that will be eternal, everlasting. An eternal life, that ignores what job you have, the car you drive, the fancy clothes you wear or the latest phone you’ve bought – none of those will exist there. Jesus in John 5:24 says ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life’. You can’t get clearer tha

00025 - The Culture Of The Kingdom
To ‘learn’ the principles of the Kingdom of God, we have to ‘un-learn’ a lot of our normal habits. Matthew 5 outlines quite a few of those principles. To be merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, salt and light, to love your enemies and bless those that curse you. A number of these principles are completely opposite to the way we feel and what we do when we get hurt, accused, or used. There is such power in doing the opposite to what a situation expects. So instead of expr

00024 - A Lightbulb Moment
We’ve all benefitted from the lightbulb invented by Thomas Edison in 1879. Not bad for a man that was told by a teacher in school that he was ‘too stupid for anything’. Eddison was also fired from his first two jobs. It took 10,000 attempts before the Lightbulb actually worked. When called a failure, Eddison’s response was ‘I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work’. He is surely the most famous inventor for simply never giving up! Galatians 6:9 tells us

00023 - The Royal Law
There is such a rich tapestry of advice in the Bible. Here is advice about the people around us every day, referred to in the book of James as the ‘Royal Law’. Imagine advice so important that it has been called ‘Royal’ and ‘Law’. ‘If you really fulfil the Royal Law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well’; James 2:8 says. After reading this we appreciate the challenge of it. To be honest, there may be neighbours that you don’t

00022 - Be The Best You Can Be… Starting Right Now!
Years ago, someone once told me that if I did my best, I could trust God with the rest. It resonated with me! God’s love is unconditional, but His blessing isn’t. It depends on our obedience and giving Him our best in each and every situation rather than our “leftovers”, is a prerequisite to blessing. So much in life is beyond our control, and the only thing we can truly be responsible for is ourselves. What’s done is done. Look forward, not back, and let the Apostle Paul (P

01461 - Breakthrough
Most of the time we give up on the dreams we have, even before doing anything to make them happen. That sounds harsh but think through the times when you aspired to want something, and nothing came of it. In Mark 11:22-24, Jesus encourages us to have faith, pray and believe. Yet apathy or fear so easily seem to control us, and the breakthrough we hope for is lost. Let’s change that, let’s gather our thoughts and this time make a plan centred fully around faith, prayer and bel

00020 - Angels
In Daniel chapter 10, Daniel finds himself in quite a fix, a vision of a demon attacking him, his friends fled, and he lost all his strength. We read from verse 10, that an angel was sent to strengthen him and that angel after fighting its way to get to Daniel with the help of a more senior angel, Michael. By the end of this chapter, Daniel was strengthened, the angel brought some understanding of the visions Daniel had been having and the angel even spoke of what will happe

00019 - Rod Of Testimony
In Exodus 14:13-14, Moses declared the Israelites shouldn’t be afraid, then promises God’s Salvation - a prophesy if ever there was one. Yet, one verse later, God asks ‘Why do you cry to Me?’ Moses boldly spoke of victory one minute and was in fear the next. Life is like that sometimes. One minute we speak boldly, the next we’re a quivering wreck. God tells Moses to lift up his ‘rod of testimony’ and extend his other arm to part the sea. Moses’ rod of testimony obscured

00018 - Rejoice
The dictionary definition of Rejoice is, ‘to feel or show great joy or delight’. Many Christians when asked how they felt on the day of their salvation, talk about the peace, joy, and delight they felt, in essence they rejoice. Of course, life can then go on to throw a few curve-balls our way, but keeping that sense of being able to rejoice is really, really important to our worship and faith. Philippians 4:4-9 says ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. Again, I will say, rejoice! L

00017 - Jesus Changes Everything
There are some New Testament stories, told by more than one writer. The story of the woman with the issue of blood is one, found in Matthew 9, Mark 5 & Luke 8. Luke recounts in Luke 8:46 Jesus saying, ‘Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me’. We know from these passages, the lady was desperate, she had spent all she had trying to find a cure, had seen many doctors, and lost most of her friends. I’m sure she would have preferred a quiet sit down with Jes

00016 - Peace Enough To Still The Storm
The song ‘When peace life a river restores attendeth my way…. It is well with my soul’ is one of those timeless classics, that inspires hope in God and musters up our faith during any time of trial. Horatio Spafford wrote it in 1873. Spafford, had to find peace from the depths of despair. He planned to move with his family to England and sent his wife and four daughters ahead of him. While they were crossing the Atlantic, their ship collided with another vessel, his children

00015 - The Prodigals Father
We see before us a generation that has lost its fathers. What we sow today will become the fruit of tomorrow. The Fathers role is to teach, train, correct and protect a child from a young age, that the result of that effort will be as it says in Proverbs 23:24, ‘a righteous child, with great joy’. (NIV) It takes three distinct phases to become a father, a child, a man, a father. It’s the lessons of life we learn along the way will enable our fatherhood. When the process of g

00014 - Always Prepare Through Prayer
You may be aware of Charles Finney, the great American Presbyterian revivalist of the 1800’s. You might not be aware though of his Intercessor Daniel Nash. Nash in his later life realised that if he with a couple of other men, went ahead of Finney before he preached, and laid the groundwork in prayer for the meetings, there would be a huge increase in the numbers who responded to the Gospel. Nash would travail in prayer for days until he felt the enemy was defeated in that a

00013 - Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
Isaac Newton stands out in history as a genius. He discovered gravity, the refraction of light through a prism, invented calculus, made the first reflecting telescope, created an alloy for the Royal mint which now shapes how coins are made around the world. All of his main work was done in the late 1600’s, no internet, no computers, no television. Newton was humble enough to say in 1675, ‘If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants’, crediting the gr

00012 - You are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
David in Psalm 139 verse 14, acknowledges that and praises God for it. It’s incredible to think that the heart in the average lifetime, will beat 3 billion times, and the body itself is made up of 15 trillion cells, or 7 octillion atoms (that’s 7 with 27 zeros behind it). Your brain is still way more powerful than the fastest supercomputer out there. Yet, in all of this complexity, there is one protein found in the body, which basically holds everything together. Laminin

00011 - The Prodigals
We all know family members whether close or distant to us, who do not yet know Jesus. The Prodigals we know can test our resolve, frustrate our peace, and bring distraction to our lives. We should still continue to love them unconditionally, pray for them forcefully and remain in touch with them frequently. We all know the story in Luke 15:11-32, when a demanding son wanted his inheritance then ran off and squandered it, come back home emaciated and humble. The love of a pa

00010 - The Hidden Influence Of Prayer
On a wet September evening, after a few years of not attending Church, the day came to return. The hope he had of slipping into the back row of the service and not being noticed were dashed, the only spare seat was on the very front row! Irene Turner gently grabbed his hand and said softly, ‘every day you have been away, I’ve prayed for you’. His heart was gripped by her prayerful sacrifice. Colossians 4:2 states that we should all ‘Continue earnestly in Prayer’. Irene did t

00009 - To Serve Or Be Served
It’s always nice to be served, whether at a store or good customer service when you phone someone, it makes you feel good. People also say that doing something for others feels so rewarding too. There’s a little scripture in Matthew 23:11, that states the greatest among us will be our servant. Where do you fit in this? Are you solely fixed on getting as many people around you to serve you without doing anything yourself? It might be you that has never volunteered, helped at

00008 - What Would You Sacrifice?
It hit me on a recent mission to Kathmandu, how much the people around me sacrificed for me. They each had stories of sacrifice in their past to get them where they are today. I met Pastor Indra - his mother sold the family’s prized possession, their water buffalo, so that he could attend Bible College. No more milk for the family to drink or sell. Aruna - invited us for lunch at the restaurant where she works as a waitress. She paid for our meal, deeming it a privilege. Ear
