00047 - Snatched From The Fire
Jude 1:23 is clear ‘save others by snatching them from the fire; to other show mercy, mixed with fear-hating even the clothes stained by corrupted flesh’. It is a wonderful sense of security and comfort to know we have been snatched from the fire by Jesus. Our sin overcome because of His sacrifice for us, making a way for us to be in fellowship and communion with God. It might be someone prayed us through to that point, it might be a friend invited us to Alpha or a Church se

00046 - Under Promise, Over Deliver
There are people around us who always seem to be able to stay on top of their work and wider life, doing both with a smile. Many of us however live life more like animal from the muppets. Those of us who have this together usually under promise and over deliver on the expectations of others. People who over promise and under deliver, however, do so because they want to please. They rarely count the cost before launching into anything and often come out the other side with

00045 - Rushing
Each evening many of us set tomorrows alarm clock for the very last possible moment. Obviously knowing that we needed to shower, dress, have breakfast and catch the bus or get through the traffic in time for work. Our relationship with God can be like that too. Don’t worry because the disciples in Matthew 26:40 had the same problem; they couldn’t even pray for one hour. Whether it is reading your bible, praying, or listening to worship, our human nature wants the biggest rew

00044 - Amazing Grace
Before John Newton was famous for penning the Hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ he was infamous as a ship captain in the slave trade. When he later found Christ, his eyes were opened to his sin, and he became an active abolitionist. He died in London in 1807 aged 82. This most famous of hymns, speaks of his revelation of Jesus, it closes with; ‘When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first began’. Perhaps wh

00043 - Never Stop Learning
Proverbs 18:15 says ‘The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out’. (NIV) When life becomes so withdrawn that we cease to desire to learn, we need an abrupt stop and a deep look at why. Life can be so rich and so full of the opportunity to learn, that our minds can be filled with awe and wonder Many people learn to be a blessing to those around them, often volunteering their knowledge or talent to someone else in need. Whether it’s car

00042 - We’ll Meet Again
Vera Lynn made this song famous, during the World War II. It became an anthem of hope for families as their loved ones served overseas. It later became a celebration song on VE day when the war was over, which continues up to today. For Christians, salvation brings with it an eternity where we will see our loved ones again, we will surely meet them again in Heaven. 1 Thessalonians 4:17 says, ‘we will be caught up together with them in the clouds’, what a hope that is. The h

00041 - Worry
Someone once said that 80% of what we worry about doesn’t happen. In a research study at Penn University, 29 people with Generalised Anxiety Disorder were asked to write down everything they worried about for one month. The study found that 91% of what they worried about never came true, and for half the group 100% of their, never occurred. Philippians 4:6 says, ‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be ma

00040 - Learning To Fly
It’s hard to image that it was only in 1905 the Wright brothers took the first powered flight. Today flying has become like taking a bus, easy to get from country to country. Man has been trying to copy the sleek design of an Eagle for years to make planes more efficient. The Eagle itself can fly up to 15,000 feet at 65 mph and see its prey from a mile away, not bad for something God created. Our human body might never fly like an Eagle, but our spirit, God within us can s

00039 - Heatwave
Putting 108 planet Earths side by side, would equal the width of the Sun. The Sun provides heat and light for us all, even though it’s 93 million miles away! During a heat wave, Wales (where I live) gets to 28 – 30 degrees which we find unbearable. Yet there are plenty of other countries which see temperatures over 40 degrees. I guess your perspective is shaped by what you are used to. Earth is uniquely placed in our solar system to produce life. Had Earth been too close or f

00038 - Precept Upon Precept, Line Upon Line.
The British cyclist team had ever won the Tour de France. The new coach David Brailsford came with a very different approach to the training. The new training method was simple, to make loads of small changes rather than few big ones. Different massage gel, better pillows, better nutrition, changing meal times, the angle of the bike’s seat, slimmer wheel tyres, insisting every rider washed their hands after going to the toilet to reduce infection. The Sky team won in 2013

00037 - Building Work
When you live in a home, you often need to repair it, perhaps upgrade it, or even build an extension onto it. That often means you also find problems with electrical cabling or damp that you didn’t expect or want. Building something requires lots of effort, expertise from workers and plenty of patience! Remember the Kevin Costner film ‘Field of Dreams’ and the quote, ‘If you build it, they will come’, it was such a brilliant example of building, perseverance, and persistenc

00036 - When Prime Ministers Fail
The most trusted political leaders are the ones beyond reproach, they tend not to be self-obsessed and have the respect of the people. Romans 13:1 says ‘…for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God’. God gives every new leader the opportunity to carry that authority with decency and integrity. Yet God never removes free will from the leaders He established, everyone can act sinfully, it’s their choic

00035 - The Flying Scotsman
Eric Liddell, the famous Scottish athlete who refused to run the 100m in the Paris Olympics of 1924 because it was scheduled on a Sunday, was the focus of the blockbuster Chariots of Fire. His conviction for God’s Kingdom, was greater than the race itself. He then shifted his attention to the 400m held on a weekday, and then yet still confidently won. Little is spoken of his return to China as a missionary the following year and then after 20 years evangelising in this huge

00034 - Have You Done A Life Audit?
If you ever get stuck in a rut, it might be time to do a life audit. Listing all the things you do, your weaknesses and strengths, activities, relationships, time on devices and watching TV etc. On that same piece of paper, you’ll also see how much you pray and study your bible. 2 Corinthians 13:5 that we need to examine ourselves spiritually and see how we are doing. Whether it’s once a year or every five years, this kind of process will reveal some of the things that cause

00033 - When It’s Time To Lead
There will be occasions in life when you need to take the lead on something even if that’s the last thing you want to do. Perhaps it’s a speech, a family matter or something at work, that if you don’t do it, it will be worse or even fail. Here are five great characteristics of a leader, 1) humility, 2) integrity, 3) values people, 4) speaks truth, 5) forgives. Titus 1:7-11 spells this out. We all face difficult situations at some time in life, yet it’s what we do in those tim

00032 - Trust in God
Proverbs 3:5-6 is an often-used scripture, telling us to ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths’. If ever there was a scripture to live by, it’s this one. To trust to that extent is often hard. To not try and fix a situation ourselves, is virtually impossible. Our human nature will always want to be in control. Yet these two small verses of scripture give us a recipe i

00031 - The Final Frontier
Although we’re not yet talking about the voyages of the Starship Enterprise, the Final Frontier in our lifetime will still be space. It’s hard to imagine that it was only in 1903 that the Wright brothers made the first plane flight, yet Space X, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic are seeking to push humans to be multi-planetary and make a tourism business out of our desire to explore – space. Isaiah 40:26 encourages us to ‘lift our eyes on high to see’. Sometimes we can be so

00030 - Happy Inter-dependence Day
Of course, that’s a play on Independence Day, celebrated today by Americans around the world. As Christians, let’s celebrate our Inter-dependence, our reliance on friends and family, on our Church and of course on God. Psalm 73:26 says, ‘My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever’. (NIV) Take a bit of time today to appreciate the goodness of God and the goodness of life around us, our connections, and conversations. When Christ

00029 - The Key
In Genesis 39 to 41 we read the story of Josephs imprisonment, and his God given ability to interpret his fellow prisoner’s dreams. The butler returning to Pharoah’s service and the baker’s execution. For two years the butler forgot about Joseph, until that day with Pharoah, unable to find anyone to interpret his dreams, the butler shared about Joseph to Pharoah. Immediately his words PLACED THE KEY IN THE LOCK, Joseph was released. Are you holding a key? Have you ever felt,

00028 - The Gates to Transformation
The word transformation suggests change from the way things are now into something else. The Christian life is like that, the first step is our choice. We must take firm steps if we want to see transformation. We may think that the challenges ahead are too difficult, the gate too big to push open and walk through. Yet those big old gates move because of the smallest of hinges. It’s not that we cannot open the gate, it’s often our fear of the unknown that stops us from tryi
