00289 - Rooted And Anchored In Our Faith
Colossians 2:6-7 says this, ‘So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.’ (NIV) This scripture immediately took my mind back to the early days of my salvation. The days of endless Bible study, prayer times into the middle of the night. Plus a passion to be around other Christians just to learn from them and talk about Jesus.

Isaiah 40:31 says ‘but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. On this St. Patrick’s day, I was reminded of part of St. Patrick’s Breast Plate, or ‘The Lorica of Saint Patrick,’ it’s a wonderful prayer. Misunderstanding can be as hurtful as it can be hilarious. Certainly hilarious if the intent was good. One time on a mission trip to India, I spoke in a small church and tried to speak in Tamil. The experience of faith building on a short term mission is incredible. Being outside your comfort zone enough to leave God use you. If you went to Africa or India, the temperature, the culture, the food and the church experience is all different. If you have never been, I would wholeheartedly suggest you do. My own baptism wasn’t in a heated water tank, but in a freezing cold river in a small village called Pelenna, in South Wales. We even had to make a little damn the day before. When I was young, it was a tradition, for the men and boys to bring in the hay at the end of summer. To help with any of jobs which the village farm needed labour to complete. We loved it, the reward being a feast for dinner, at the farm house. Farming then was a community affair, from helping with labour to buying the vegetables, eggs and milk it produced. In over thirty years of ministry, I’ve noticed the most effective people have been the ones who persevered over time. Come what may, they chipped away at something and found a way through. They never gave up. Of course there would have been times of trial, ill-health, zero finance, discord and even disagreement, yet they still found a way to carry on. Giving up is a permanent solution to a temporary problem! Once you give up, the pursuit of the vision God has given you stops.

Believed to be the son of Saint Non, David died around 589 AD. He was the Bishop of Mynyw, now St. David’s in Wales. The cathedral there stands on the site of a monastery David founded in 550 AD. David’s work would have been a simple walk of teaching, leading and solidly advocated the love and message of Christ to the world.
